 | Tuesday, February 08, 2011 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Academy of Fine Arts 2, Cathedral Road , Rabindra SadanSundaram presents its newest production Ja Nei Bharatey, a Bengali drama, enacted and directed by Manoj Mitra, a famous theatre exponent of Bengal. There is a Bengali proverb ‘Ja nei Bharatey ta nei Bharatey’, which means ‘whatever is not in the Mahabharata, does not exist in India’ (or exist at all). Ja Nei Bharatey also means ‘All that remains unsaid in the Mahabharata’. Without distorting the epic text, Manoj Mitra here reads between the lines and looks rationally at all that led up to the great conflict, taking the side of nature, wilderness and the neglected outcasts of society. |
