The play is set in the times when Bengali society in Kolkata was starkly divided into traditional orthodox Hindus and the modern liberal Brahmos. The play explores the ideological clashes and deep-rooted hypocrises between the two groups Gora, the protagonist of the story, is a strong advocate of Hinduism, but is forced to confront his own flaws when he comes in contact with Poresh Babu, a forward thinking gentleman who represents the Brahmos. Through this play, Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore’s vision is kept alive - that caste, religion and social standings are all secondary in life, and it is only through faith in humanity and human relations that we can progress.
